Jakarta- PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has received the Subroto Award 2024 for its efforts and contributions to reducing carbon emissions and energy efficiency through flare gas management. The award recognizes achievements in the Oil and Gas Safety and Flare Gas Optimization category, specifically for the Optimization of Flare Gas Management in the Oil and Gas Upstream Business Subcategory for Gas Fields.

The Subroto Award 2024 was presented directly by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, to PHM General Manager Setyo Sapto Edi, accompanied by North Processing Unit (NPU) Field Manager Andi Suhendra at the Grand Ballroom Kempinski, Jakarta, on October 10, 2024. PHM was selected among 18 companies participating in the Flare Gas Management Optimization category in the Oil and Gas Upstream Business Subcategory for Gas Fields.

Setyo emphasized that PHM is committed to conducting safe upstream oil and gas operations in compliance with all environmental regulations and legislation. "We implement environmental management programs by our commitment and policies to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, conserve the environment, and support Pertamina's energy transition and net-zero emissions by 2060," he stated. Setyo added that PHM consistently applies the best oil and gas operations management practices to support business sustainability and environmental preservation.

In this year's Subroto Award, PHM proposed the Single Flare Optimization program at the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and North Processing Unit (NPU) facilities. This program's implementation successfully optimized flare gas combustion by 285.08 mmscf, equivalent to a reduction of 1,722.97 tons of CO2eq emissions from 2019 to the end of 2023. Additionally, PHM has implemented zero routine flaring, where flare gas is only burned for safety and non-routine reasons.
