Marang Kayu, East Kalimantan – PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) conducted an Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign on November 12-13, 2024, involving 132 participants, including junior high and vocational school students, women's organizations, and community leaders from the Marang Kayu Subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara. The campaign was held across several schools and was attended by students from SMP Negeri 1, 2, 3, and 5 Marang Kayu, as well as participants from madrasas, Islamic boarding schools, vocational schools, and high schools in the region.
The campaign featured impactful presentations by speakers from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Bontang City, including Anne Sebayang and Cokorda, alongside Chandra Palawarukka from the Marang Kayu Health Center. "The threat of drugs is becoming increasingly prevalent, especially among the younger generation. This campaign is a vital first step to prevent larger societal impacts," said Anne Sebayang.
The initiative was further supported by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Marang Kayu Police and the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI) of Marang Kayu, showcasing strong cross-sector collaboration.
Through this campaign, PHSS underscored its dedication to addressing pressing social issues, particularly the rising cases of drug abuse in Kalimantan, including Marang Kayu. The program highlighted the company's role in empowering and protecting local communities.
Iva Kurnia Mahardi, Field Manager of PHSS, emphasized that the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs are designed to address the community's needs. "With increasing drug cases near our operational areas, this campaign has become a priority. The younger generation plays a critical role in shaping the nation's future. Drug abuse not only destroys individuals but also has far-reaching consequences for families and communities. Initiatives like this are essential to help our youth resist these dangers," she explained.
Iva further noted that PHSS supports youth development through various CSR initiatives, including educational support and skill-building programs. "Drugs must not become an obstacle for the younger generation in pursuing education and realizing their potential," she added.
The campaign received enthusiastic responses from participants. Aulia, a SMP Negeri 2 Marang Kayu student, shared her thoughts: "This event opened my eyes to the dangers of drugs. I now understand how drugs can destroy our future. I hope similar events are held annually."
This campaign exemplifies how synergy between the government, companies, and communities can create meaningful and positive change. Beyond raising awareness about the dangers of drugs, the initiative fostered collective responsibility to create safer, healthier environments.
PHSS aims to create a long-term impact through programs like this. Looking ahead, the company envisions broader cross-sector collaboration to expand the reach of awareness campaigns to larger communities. "Prevention is always better than cure. Awareness campaigns like this are an investment in the future," Iva concluded with optimism.
