Innovation of Rumah Bahagia, the Success Story of PEP Sangasanga Field in Supporting the Reduction of Stunting Rates in Samboja

Samboja, East Kalimantan – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field inaugurated the Rumah Bahagia facility as part of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) implementation through the Integrated Community Health Program toward Prosperity/Program Kesehatan Masyarakat Terpadu Menuju Sejahtera (Prokesmas Puja). The Regional Secretary of Kutai Kartanegara Regency (Kukar), Sunggono, was present in person and jointly inaugurated the facility located in Samboja Subdistrict on 17 December 2025.

The presence of Rumah Bahagia, an acronym for Rumah Balita Sehat, Giat, dan Cerdas Samboja (Home for Healthy, Active, and Smart Toddlers of Samboja), represents PEP Sangasanga Field’s commitment to improving community health standards, particularly by accelerating the reduction of stunting prevalence. Sungai Seluang Urban Village is one of the priority areas in Kutai Kartanegara Regency for accelerating the reduction of stunting prevalence.

The inauguration ceremony of Rumah Bahagia was attended and accompanied by the Senior Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field, Sigid Setiawan; the Head of the Representative Office of the National Population and Family Planning Agency/Perwakilan Badan Kependudukan dan Keluarga Berencana Nasional (BKKBN) of East Kalimantan Province, dr. Nurifki Permanajati, M.H., the Head of the Community Health Division of the Kutai Kartanegara Regency Health Office, dr. Leny Astuti, M.Kes., the Head of Samboja Subdistrict, Damsik; and the Head of Samboja Community Health Center, Su’ud.

Senior Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field, Sigid Setiawan, stated that the Company not only focuses on national energy security, but also strives to contribute to community social development. “For us, operational sustainability is not only about energy supply, but also about growing together with the community through long-term commitment, in this case related to health and the future of the next generation,” said Sigid. He added that the Company believes that children who grow up healthy and happy will strengthen the region's future and drive sustainable development.

Out of a total of 195 toddlers in Sungai Seluang Urban Village, 56 toddlers were identified as stunted. Since the implementation of the stunting intervention program in October 2025, the interventions carried out have shown positive results. A total of 40 toddlers showed weight gain, reflecting improved nutritional status and the effectiveness of accelerated stunting reduction efforts in the area.

The presence of Rumah Bahagia not only focuses on reducing stunting rates but also serves as a long-term investment in ensuring optimal toddler growth and development and in realizing a healthier community. In line with this, PEP Sangasanga Field, together with the Samboja Community Health Center and the Sungai Seluang Urban Village Government, has implemented the Supplementary Feeding Program/Program Pemberian Makanan Tambahan (PMT) through direct home delivery to the homes of toddlers identified as stunted.

To further encourage nutritional fulfillment and improve toddler health status, the innovation of establishing Rumah Bahagia Samboja was introduced, functioning as a special day care facility for stunted toddlers. Toddlers gather and eat together, creating a more enjoyable atmosphere that increases their appetite to consume supplementary food with peers. The facility also provides various play and learning activities designed to support toddlers’ cognitive and motor development.

Not only for toddlers, but Rumah Bahagia also provides education for parents who have not been actively involved in  Integrated Service Post/Pos Pelayanan Terpadu (Posyandu) activities. With the presence of this day care facility, parents can continue productive activities without neglecting their children's nutrition, growth, and development, and sustainable health.

The Regional Secretary of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Sunggono, expressed his appreciation to PEP Sangasanga Field for its attention and tangible contribution to efforts to reduce stunting rates in Kukar. “PEP Sangasanga Field has demonstrated its commitment and contribution in supporting community health development programs through Rumah Bahagia, which is in line with the Kutai Kartanegara Regency Government’s program to accelerate and reduce stunting rates. This program not only provides nutritional intervention, but also presents a comprehensive approach to caregiving and assistance for toddlers and parents,” he said.

The Head of the Representative Office of the BKKBN of East Kalimantan Province, dr. Nurifki Permanajati, M.H., also expressed appreciation for PEP Sangasanga Field for its contribution, which has a direct impact on efforts to reduce stunting rates. “The Rumah Bahagia Program reflects synergy in implementing the commitment that child caregiving is a shared responsibility between families, communities, and the government,” he stated.

On 5 December 2025, PEP Sangasanga Field received an award from the Governor of East Kalimantan for being one of the companies contributing to the Foster Parents Movement to Prevent Stunting/Gerakan Orang Tua Asuh Cegah Stunting (Genting) Program, a program of the BKKBN of East Kalimantan Province.
