Jakarta– PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) Group has once again achieved remarkable success in environmental management and community empowerment by receiving the Gold PROPER Award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK) through its subsidiaries and affiliates, PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field and PEP Sangatta Field. This prestigious award was presented by the Indonesian Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, on February 24, 2025, for two flagship programs The Ekoriparian Sungai Hitam Lestari Program by PEP Sangasanga Field, which focuses on preserving the riparian ecosystem and conserving biodiversity around the Sungai Hitam (Black River). The "Prolekta" Program (Program Pengembangan Petani Hutan Kelulut Sangatta) by PEP Sangatta Field promotes community economic empowerment through stingless bee farming and community-based forest management.
PHI's President, Director, Sunaryanto, expressed gratitude for the company's achievement in the 2024 Corporate Performance Rating Program on Environmental Management (PROPER) organized by KLHK. He emphasized that the Gold PROPER Award reflects the company's commitment to integrating environmental and social innovation into its upstream oil and gas operations. "This achievement is government recognition of PHI's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility as a core part of our business operations," said Sunaryanto.
According to him, PHI continues to promote Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) based programs to create a greener and more sustainable future. "The Sungai Hitam Lestari Program demonstrates that community-based approaches can create lasting environmental and social impacts. Meanwhile, the 'Prolekta' Program reflects our commitment to responsible waste management and reducing negative impacts while providing economic value to local communities," he explained.
PEP Sangasanga Field has won the Gold PROPER Award for two consecutive years, with the Ekoriparian Sungai Hitam Lestari Program also earning the award in 2023. This prestigious recognition highlights PEP Sangasanga's dedication to integrating sustainable business practices with environmental innovation, benefiting both ecosystems and surrounding communities.
This year, PHI Group also received Green PROPER Awards for several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that contribute to environmental conservation and community empowerment: PEP Sangatta's Semberah Field was recognized for the ECO STEP SEMBERAH program, which focuses on energy efficiency and environmental management. PEP Tanjung developed KUAS JIRAK (Kelompok Usaha Acil Desa Jirak), an initiative to promote environmentally-based economic empowerment.
Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) North Operation Area (DOBU) received an award for the Prangat Prabu Civet Coffee Village Ecology Strengthening program. PHKT South Operation Area (DOBS) initiated SEMUR CENDAWAN (Semai Jamur dengan Cerdas dan Berwawasan Pangan) as an innovative approach to food resilience. PEP Tarakan launched AKAR BASAH (Aliansi Kerja Bebas Sampah) to engage the community in active waste reduction efforts. PEP Bunyu introduced MANTAP BETUL BAH (Media Tanam Akar Pakis untuk Bunyu Pertanian Unggul, Baskom Air Hujan), which utilizes local resources for sustainable agriculture. PHM contributed through the Wasteco program, focusing on efficient and sustainable waste management.
Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PHI, Dony Indrawan, highlighted that these programs reflect Pertamina's commitment to supporting environmental sustainability while enhancing community welfare through innovation and real action. "The Sungai Hitam Lestari Program, led by PHSS, is an environmental initiative aimed at preserving the Sungai Hitam through community-based approaches. It focuses on river ecosystem rehabilitation, conservation of the proboscis monkey (a native species), and sustainable ecotourism management. Through collaboration with local communities, academics, and local government, the program has successfully raised awareness and created a balance between environmental conservation and eco-tourism-based economic growth," Dony explained.
Additionally, Dony mentioned that the Prolekta Program by PEP Sangatta began in 2021, initially focusing on infrastructure development and improving the skills of stingless bee farmers through training in beekeeping and food safety. Starting from improving inefficient farming systems, the program has fostered various innovations, including a simple honey extractor that has now obtained a patent. The program also includes educational activities to enhance farmers' understanding of sustainable farming techniques. PHI Group reaffirms its dedication to environmental sustainability and community development through these award-winning programs, advancing its vision of a responsible and sustainable oil and gas industry.
