Balikpapan – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam successfully brought the WPN-6 Platform onstream as part of the Sisi Nubi Area of Interest 1-3-5 (SNB AOI 1-3-5) Project in the Offshore Sisi Nubi Field, Mahakam Working Area, East Kalimantan. This onstream achievement marks an important milestone, as WPN-6 becomes the fourth platform to commence production among the six platforms being developed under this project. The onstream of the WPN-6 Platform began with the start-up of Well NB-601 on June 5, 2026, which recorded gas production of up to 6 MMSCFD. This was followed by Well NB-603 on June 8, 2026, with production reaching 8 MMSCFD.

Along with the optimization and stabilization of the wells and production facilities, both wells are expected to achieve gas production of up to 20 MMSCFD. The successful onstream of the WPN-6 Platform follows the successful commissioning of the three previous platforms: WPS-4 on December 4, 2025, WPS-5 on February 23, 2026, and WPN-7 on March 23, 2026. This achievement demonstrates that field development has progressed consistently and in an integrated manner, in accordance with established targets, while continuously maintaining operational safety and reliability.

PHM General Manager, Setyo Sapto Edi, emphasized that this milestone achievement of the SNB AOI 1-3-5 Project supports PHM’s commitment and strategic efforts to sustain oil and gas production in support of national energy security.

“The achievement of this project is very important in maintaining the sustainability of oil and gas production from the Kalimantan region, particularly from the Mahakam Working Area, to support the Government’s Asta Cita agenda related to energy self-sufficiency,” he explained.

According to him, the Company, with the support of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia as the parent company, is committed to continuously implementing safe, reliable, compliant, and value-creating upstream oil and gas investment projects and operational activities in line with the Company’s vision. “This successful onstream is aligned with the Company’s vision to become a leading national energy company that supports the sustainability of oil and gas production for Indonesia’s energy availability and security,” said Setyo.

Setyo also explained the implementation of innovation and technology within the project. “We believe that the application of innovation and technology is a strategic step for the Company to continuously strive to maintain production levels and mitigate the natural decline rate of mature oil and gas fields,” he explained.

The achievement of the WPN-6 Platform onstream was supported by the readiness of all teams in carrying out various critical testing stages. These included the implementation of the Emergency Shutdown (ESD) test to ensure optimal operation of safety systems, well clean-up activities, and nitrogen leak testing to ensure the facilities were free of leaks before production commenced. “Cross-functional collaboration and the support of all internal and external stakeholders have been key factors in the achievement of this project,” he concluded.
