Enhancing Safety and Security, PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur Holds the 2026 Upstream Oil and Gas Campaign

Bontang – PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) Northern Operation Area/Daerah Operasi Bagian Utara (DOBU) organized the 2026 Upstream Oil and Gas Safety & Security Campaign in Bontang City, East Kalimantan, on Thursday, 5 March 2026. This campaign represents an important step in maintaining the sustainability of the Company’s oil and gas production to support national energy availability and resilience.

The campaign involved various stakeholders in upstream oil and gas operations, including representatives from central and regional government institutions, security authorities, port authorities, maritime elements, as well as representatives of fishermen groups and coastal communities in the Bontang area.

Head of Communication, Relations & CID Zona 10 PHKT, Elis Fauziyah, stated that the campaign serves as a preventive effort to raise public awareness about the existence and importance of maintaining safety and security in the Restricted Prohibited Area/Daerah Terbatas Terlarang (DTT) surrounding upstream oil and gas operational facilities. “These areas are part of National Vital Objects/Objek Vital Nasional (Obvitnas) that have specific security standards,” she explained.

Through this campaign, Elis said the Company hopes stakeholders, including the public, will gain better awareness and understanding of operational boundaries and the risks that may arise if violations occur within the DTT area. “We emphasize the importance of maintaining a safe distance from operational facilities such as oil or gas pipelines when fishermen pass through the DTT area so that they can protect their own safety, upstream oil and gas operational facilities, and the environment,” she added.

Elis emphasized that strong synergy among the Company, government, security authorities, and the community is essential to creating a safe and conducive operational environment. A safe and controlled environment will support the sustainability of upstream oil and gas operations while strengthening the Company’s contribution to national energy resilience.

Meanwhile, Head of the Marine Spatial Management Division of the East Kalimantan Provincial Marine and Fisheries Office, M. Ali Aripe, stated that the outreach initiative carried out by PHKT is highly necessary, particularly to maintain the safety and security of communities that also utilize coastal areas. “Local governments, the provincial government, and PHKT need to continue socializing this activity so that operations can run safely and smoothly, while also supporting national energy resilience, which is a priority of the Indonesian government,” he explained.

The presence of stakeholders in this campaign reflects a shared commitment to safeguarding national vital objects while fostering transparent, constructive communication. PHKT believes that the safety and security of upstream oil and gas operations cannot be optimally achieved without the support of all stakeholders.
