Encouraging Renewable Energy Development in the Community, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga Facilitates Solar Power Plant Operator Training and Certification

Jakarta – To promote the utilization of renewable energy sources within the community, PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) has facilitated members of its fostered villages to participate in the Junior Operator Training and Certification for Solar Power Plant (PLTS) Operations. The three-day program took place at the Center for Human Resource Development in Electricity, New and Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (PPSDM KEBTKE) in East Jakarta from January 8–10, 2025.

This training and certification initiative is part of the Energizing Integrated Independent Energy Village Program/Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB), one of Pertamina’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental Responsibility/Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Lingkungan (TJSL) programs that support the energy transition policy and the Net Zero Emission 2060 target. PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, collaborated with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to bring this initiative to life.

As part of this program, PHSS sent Sandi Santoso and Rudi, two local heroes from the CSR fostered village of Balanipa, located in Badak Baru Village, Muara Badak District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. Sandi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the training and certification program. “The knowledge we gained is an important asset to optimize the operation of the solar power plant in our village,” he said. Rudi shared similar sentiments, believing that the program has provided valuable insights to support the optimal use of renewable energy in their community.

On the first day, participants received materials on electricity regulations, certification methodology, electrical competency, and an introduction to PLTS operations. The second and third days were dedicated to certification exams, including written tests, practical assessments, and interviews.

PHSS Field Manager, Widhiarto Imam Subarkah, emphasized the company’s ongoing support for innovative CSR programs focused on the energy transition. “The DEB Program is a testament to our commitment to promoting renewable energy for real and sustainable impact. We also strive to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into every CSR initiative,” he stated.

This training program equips local heroes with technical skills and official certification, expanding job opportunities while strengthening the sustainability of renewable energy programs in their communities. “We believe that with the right investment, local communities can become active participants in the energy transition efforts,” Imam added.

Head of Communication Relations & CID Zona 9, Elis Fauziyah, highlighted that the DEB Program has been implemented based on local needs to ensure long-term benefits. “In Zona 9, this program has been carried out in five locations, including Balanipa and the Water Supply System (WSS) Saliki at PHSS, Kuas Jirak at PEP Tanjung Field, PROLEKTA at PEP Sangatta Field, and the Ekoriparian Sungai Hitam Lestari at PEP Sangasanga Field,” Elis explained.

The program is designed based on comprehensive social mapping to provide solutions tailored to the unique challenges of each region. “With this training and certification, we aim to enhance local human resource capacity so they can operate renewable energy independently and sustainably,” she added.

Through this initiative, PHSS is committed to building energy independence based on local resources, focusing on PLTS development. The certification obtained will enhance participants’ technical competencies, provide official recognition as electricity professionals, support the sustainability of the DEB Program, and create job opportunities for local youth. “The involvement of local heroes in this program is expected to raise awareness and encourage the community’s willingness to adopt renewable energy,” she emphasized.

This program serves as tangible evidence of PHSS’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and fostering positive synergy with surrounding communities. Moving forward, PHSS will continue to develop programs that empower communities and promote sustainable development in its operational areas.

The Junior Operator Training and Certification for PLTS Operations was also attended by local heroes from other Pertamina Upstream Subholding operational areas, including PHE Jambi Merang, Pertamina EP (PEP) Jatibarang, and Pertamina EP Cepu (PEPC) JTB.
