Samboja – PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) inaugurated the Nyiur Sembilan Baanjung Culinary and Botanical Tourism Program, an initiative aimed at developing the Nyiur Sembilan area as an eco-edutourism destination that offers not only recreation but also educational experiences for visitors. The inauguration took place on Sunday, September 8, 2025, in the Nyiur Sembilan area, located in Handil Baru Darat Village, Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan.

The event was attended by the Samboja District Head and Secretary, the Head of Handil Baru Darat Village, and representatives from the local police and military, reflecting cross-institutional support for regional tourism development.

Head of Communication Relations & CID of Zona 8 PHM, Achmad Krisna Hadiyanto, stated that the development of eco-edutourism in the area is based on sustainable local potential and collaboration among stakeholders. He also expressed hope that the program would contribute to the growth of the local tourism sector and have a positive impact on the community’s economy. “Synergy among the company, government, and community will be the key to successfully managing a tourism destination based on local potential,” said Achmad.

A total of seven MSME groups actively participated in the event, showcasing local culinary products and crafts. Public enthusiasm was high, with 864 visitors and a total income of IDR 21 million during the inauguration. “This achievement is concrete evidence that the tourism sector can go hand in hand with improving the local economy while strengthening the role of MSMEs as one of the backbones of regional development,” Achmad added.

Samboja District Secretary, Amir Lufni, expressed that PHM’s support represents a tangible contribution from a company operating in the Samboja area toward fostering a productive, innovative, and collaborative community. “We hope the synergy between the government, community, and company continues to grow and improve the living standards of Samboja residents,” he said.

Dony Indrawan, Manager of Communication Relations & CID of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), welcomed the inauguration of the Nyiur Sembilan Baanjung Culinary and Botanical Tourism Program. He stated that the program aligns with the company’s commitment to ensuring that upstream oil and gas operations and business activities contribute to economic growth, community self-reliance, and environmental preservation, in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dony reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continuing programs that not only support sustainable oil and gas operations but also provide tangible benefits to communities through local economic development and environmental conservation. “The initiatives carried out by PHM, as one of PHI’s subsidiaries, serve as a concrete example of how tourism based on local potential can be developed sustainably through collaboration between the company, local communities, regional governments, and other stakeholders, while strengthening the local economy,” he concluded.
