Muara Jawa–PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS) planted 1350 seedlings of up mangrove trees (Rhizophora mucronata) to commemorate World Mangrove Day, which falls on 26 July 2023. The mangrove was planted in Salo Sumbala, Muara Badak and Teluk Dalam Districts, Muara Jawa District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan (22-23/07/2023).
The planting event was attended by several Muspika Muara Badak and Muara Jawa, as well as PHSS CSR Program Development Partners, such as Pokdakan (Fish Cultivation Group) Salo Sumbala Sejahtera, Muara Badak Fishermen Community Association, Creative Literacy House (Rulika) and Poktan (Farmers Group) Mandiri Raya.
PHSS Field Manager Ade Diar Suhendar explained that this activity supports the One Two Trees Program by the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas). SKK Migas invites upstream oil and gas stakeholders to contribute to reducing carbon emissions to ensure environmental sustainability for future generations.
“Planting mangroves is a form of the company’s commitment to running upstream oil and gas operations that are safe, reliable, compliant and environmentally friendly. We apply the principles of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) in all of the company’s activities,” said Ade.
Ade also explained that the mangrove planting activity was a form of synergy between the company and the fostered partners, where the seeds planted were purchased from the Salo Sumbala Sejahtera Pokdakan and other PHSS Foster Partners, namely Partners from the Coast Guard Program.
“Planting mangroves supports the steps to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely goals 13 and 15 dealing with climate change and protecting terrestrial ecosystems. This mangrove was chosen because it is a reclamation plant and is suitable for reforestation of coastal areas.” he concluded.
Muara Jawa Sub-District Head Safrudin expressed his appreciation to PHSS for providing good and useful support and contribution to the Muara Jawa region. “We hope that this activity can run routinely and that PHSS and the Government of Muara Jawa can continue to work together in protecting the environment and developing the Muara Jawa region to be even more advanced,” he added.
Collaboration with Foster Partners and parties from government agencies or the public is expected to support the smooth operation of upstream oil and gas, which is important in supplying energy for Indonesia and preserving the environment.
