Kutai Kartanegara – In celebration of World Environment Day (WED), PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) conducted a land reforestation activity at the Bee Edu Park eco-tourism site in Bangun Rejo Village, Tenggarong Seberang, on Thursday, June 13, 2024. The event, themed "Land Restoration for Food and Kelulut Honey Bee Development," was a collaboration between PHKT, the Kutai Kartanegara Environmental and Forestry Service (DLHK), and the Trigona Zwageri Forest Farmers Group (KTH).
The reforestation activity involved planting 300 Xanthostemon chrysanthus saplings, commonly known as Santos Lemon, which feed kelulut honey bees. Additionally, 75 orchid saplings were handed over to KTH Trigona Zwageri as the first step towards establishing an orchid garden.
M. Taufik, Secretary of DLHK Kutai Kartanegara, stated that World Environment Day 2024 is a crucial moment to continuously grow and enhance awareness and commitment to improving the environment consistently and sustainably. World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5.
"We hope that the well-established cooperation between DLHK Kutai Kartanegara, PHKT, and the Trigona Zwageri Forest Farmers Group can continue effectively in our joint efforts to preserve biodiversity in Bangun Rejo Village's eco-tourism area," he added.
Suwantono Widji, Manager of the Kalimantan Field PHKT, explained that this reforestation activity aligns with the Company's commitment to environmental management to reduce carbon emissions, energy efficiency, environmental conservation, and support Pertamina's energy transition policy and net zero emissions by 2060. "The Company is committed to implementing its Corporate Social Responsibility program, which supports community development and self-reliance in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 15 on Life on Land, as demonstrated in this activity," he said.
Suwantono expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in ensuring the success of this event. "The success of this event is the result of collaboration with stakeholders and our concrete action in supporting land restoration to provide positive environmental impacts," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Dainu Fuliana, representing the Trigona Zwageri Forest Farmers Group, expressed his hope that planting Santos Lemon saplings would increase kelulut honey production in their area.
