Balikpapan— PT Pertamina Hulu Kalimantan Timur (PHKT) held the Closing PERTAMOVE Wellness Challenge 2024–2025 on April 30, 2025, at the Balikpapan Botanical Garden (Kebun Raya Balikpapan/KRB) in conjunction with the 2025 Earth Day celebration, themed “Our Power, Our Planet.” This event reflects the company's commitment to employee wellness and environmental preservation.
Earth Day, commemorated every April 22, is a moment of global reflection aimed at strengthening collective awareness of the importance of safeguarding our planet. On this occasion, PHKT launched a range of eco-friendly initiatives, including planting Monkey Tail Ferns (Cibotiaceae) and releasing Nile tilapia fingerlings, as a tangible contribution to local biodiversity conservation.
The event also marked the conclusion of the PERTAMOVE Wellness Challenge 2024–2025, a healthy lifestyle development program since October 2024. The highlight activity featured a 3-kilometer jogging track along the Etlingera Balikpapanensis route, also known as the Balikpapan Ginger Track. Participants with the highest scores in this year’s wellness challenge completed this trail. Additional activities included an AKHLAK values quiz session and a closing ceremony filled with positive energy.
Zona 10 General Manager, Yoseph Agung Prihartono, emphasized that the company’s environmental commitment extends beyond ceremonial efforts. “PHKT continues to implement sustainable conservation practices, including energy efficiency initiatives that last year earned us a sustainability award from PT Pertamina (Persero),” said Yoseph. At PHKT's office area in Pasir Ridge, conservation efforts are also carried out through orchid cultivation in collaboration with the Balikpapan Botanical Garden, which the Bogor Botanical Gardens mentor.
He noted that today’s event reflects two important aspects: the spirit of environmental care and the spirit of self-care. “I appreciate all wellness participants who have consistently lived a healthy lifestyle. Hopefully, this spirit will spread to a wider work environment,” Yoseph added.
The head of the Balikpapan City Government’s Botanical Garden Technical Unit (UPTD KRB), Lukman Riyadi, also attended and expressed gratitude to PHKT and its holding company, PHI, for their contribution to the development of the orchidarium zone. According to him, the presence of the orchid garden has significantly boosted tourist visits to the botanical garden and positively impacted the region’s local revenue.
“We are currently completing a 10-kilometer jogging track for the runner communities in Balikpapan, and we would be delighted if PHKT employees would like to try out the track while engaging in eco-friendly activities,” he said.
The Closing PERTAMOVE Wellness Challenge 2024–2025 and Earth Day celebration reaffirm that sustainability, both environmental and personal health, is an integral part of the company’s core values. Zona 10 remains committed to embedding AKHLAK values in all operational aspects, including health and environmental initiatives.
