Balikpapan- PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) and Pertamina Foundation (PF) have collaborated to implement the Sobat Bumi Kalimantan Scholarship Program/Beasiswa Sobat Bumi Kalimantan (BSBK). On August 16, 15 of the brightest students from Kalimantan were awarded full scholarships. One of the recipients, Divania Daniella from Balikpapan, shared her story and hopes of achieving her dreams through the BSBK Program.
To support his family, Divania's father works as a truck driver. Despite economic hardships, he remains determined to support Divania's and her two older siblings' education. As the youngest child, Divania did not want to add to her family's burden if she pursued higher education.
However, Divania was determined to continue her studies beyond high school. Learning about the BSBK Program through her school and social media gave her a glimmer of hope for realizing her dreams.
With strong determination and a desire to ease her parents' burden, Divania decided to participate in the BSBK Program selection. She prepared herself for the competitive process. "When I saw the scholarship information from PHI, I was confident that this scholarship would not only ease my college expenses but also help me achieve my dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur," said Divania, who is now starting her higher education as a student in the Development Economics program at Mulawarman University.
Divania's parents' support and prayers accompanied her through the BSBK Program selection process, from administrative steps to the academic potential test and interviews. "My mom said that I shouldn't be discouraged if I didn't pass. Stay motivated, and God will provide another way. But if I did pass, I must be grateful and promise to use it to support my academic achievements," she revealed.
As a result, Divania was chosen as one of the 15 recipients of the BSBK Program scholarship. She is entitled to full funding for her undergraduate education, including tuition fees, living expenses, and capacity-building support with an environmental perspective, such as Sobat Bumi Actions and the Sobat Bumi Independent Energy Village program/ Aksi Sobat Bumi dan Desa Energi Berdikari Sobat Bumi (DEB SoBI).
"With this scholarship, my parents no longer struggle to finance my education to achieve my dreams. They are pleased and proud of this achievement. My next goal is to achieve a high Grade Point Average (GPA) and be more diligent in learning the knowledge provided," Divania said.
Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PHI, Dony Indrawan, stated that the BSBK Program reflects the company's commitment to supporting the development of local youth, particularly in accessing higher education. He mentioned that providing full scholarships through the BSBK Program serves as a bridge for Kalimantan's youth, especially those from underprivileged families, to realize their aspirations. "BSBK is PHI's flagship CSR program in education, which aims to ease their financial burden in pursuing higher education and shape them into superior and competitive generations," Dony said.
