Sangasanga– PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field has successfully increased its oil and gas production, now reaching 5,649 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 6,237 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas.
This achievement is supported by numerous key measures and steps, including the implementation of innovations such as BioEcoFizz and Pertanofa, rocking activities rigless interventions to revive wells with natural flow, enabling previously halted wells to resume production—installation of a Mini Gas Compressor in gas wells, which also functions as a Flare Recovery Unit at the station pool (SP) area, and acceleration of the Well Service program.
Acting General Manager of Zona 9 Ade Diar Suhendar explained the company’s commitment to continuously applying various innovations and technologies to support the company in maintaining recovery and production levels in mature oil and gas fields. “The implementation of BioEcoFizz and Pertanofa is the result of synergy with PT Pertamina (Persero) and Pertamina Upstream Subholding to support the level of oil and gas production contributed by Pertamina to the national oil and gas production,” said Ade.
According to Ade, BioEcoFizz and Pertanofa share a similar concept, wherein both transform water in the wellbore into foam, reducing the height of the water column in the well and lowering hydrostatic pressure. “When the hydrostatic pressure decreases and falls below the reservoir pressure, previously inactive wells can start to flow again,” he explained.
In addition to these innovations, rocking activities were carried out at the NKL-1042 well site, resulting in an increase in production by 838 bopd and 1,027 mscfd. Previously, this well had been experiencing a decline in production over time. Gradually, this activity was applied to several gas wells, resulting in a total production of 149 mmscf by mid-2024.
Senior Manager of PEP Sangasanga Field Sigid Setiawan stated that the company will continue to support the implementation of suitable innovations and technologies to open up other opportunities for extending well life and maintaining oil and gas production levels. “We will keep supporting the application of innovations and technologies to create more opportunities for extending well life and sustaining oil and gas production,” said Sigid.
In addition to rocking activities, Sigid noted that the production achievements of PEP Sangasanga Field were supported by other efforts, such as installing a mini gas compressor, which also serves as a Flare Recovery Unit at SP. This installation significantly contributes to the gas production of Sangasanga Field, accounting for an average of 21 percent of total gas sales, or 281 MMSCF as of July 2024. This increase is crucial in fulfilling the Joint Gas Sales Contract with PLN Tanjung Batu. “Thanks to all the efforts and innovations, PEP Sangasanga Field is currently producing and continuing to contribute to meeting Indonesia’s energy needs,” he concluded.
PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Sangasanga Field, under Subholding Upstream Regional 3 led by PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), manages its upstream oil and gas operations and business by Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. In collaboration with SKK Migas, PEP Sangasanga Field, and other PHI subsidiaries and affiliates continue to engage in various innovations and technology applications to produce safe, efficient, reliable, compliant, and environmentally friendly energy to realize #EnergiKalimantanUntukIndonesia.
